Abstract

PROBLEM: Cardiorespiratory arrest occupies one of the main deaths worldwide; According to the National Institute of Statistics in 2018, circulatory problems represented 16% of deaths in the Guatemalan population; for 2019 worldwide it represents 16% of deaths according to the World Health Organization, positioning itself as one of the 10 main causes of death. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the updating of the management of cardiorespiratory arrest according to the guidelines of the American Heart Association 2020, in volunteer firefighters from Zacapa, Chiquimula, and San Luis Jilotepeque, Jalapa, from the Northeast and Southeast region of the country. METHOD: An action investigation was carried out where 59 firefighters with more than 3 years of service in the active force entered to answer a test; of which 37 agreed to be part of the study, prior informed consent and 30 attended the training at Finca Los Laureles Chiquimula, Ruta a Ipala. RESULTS: 84% of firefighters were not updated; After the training, the update of 51% was achieved. CONCLUSION: The outdated management of patients with cardiorespiratory arrest is due to the more than 10 years of service of most firefighters, due to ignorance of current management guidelines.
