Abstract

The difference between life and death can be found in team work and assistance in complicated cases, which is why you should know when to request and know how to help. Within the causes of maternal mortality the first place continues to be hemorrhages in 25% of all deaths and usually these occur in 50% in the first 24 hours postpartum, 90% being preventable. Among the life-threatening conditions are “delays”, such as the failure of timely recognition, failure to seek medical attention, seeking inadequate care, failure to achieve care or inadequate care. The considerations to be taken into account in postpartum haemorrhage is to have a massive transfusion protocol that guarantees the availability of blood components for the treatment of hemorrhage. The main risk factors for postpartum haemorrhage are those that alter uterine contractility such as chorioamnionitis, endometritis, administration of magnesium sulfate, administration of uterine inhibitors, placenta previa, acreatism and prolonged labor. The general measures of medical treatment are a good intravenous access, infusion of crystalloids or colloids, assess diuresis by means of a Foley catheter, constant blood pressure control and bimanual uterine massage.
