Caracterización de pacientes con fractura de cadera en hospitales de referencia nacional

Abstract

The treatment of hip fractures currently represents one of the most common practices of trauma, it is considered by a large number of specialists as the silent epidemic of the 21st century. The general objective of this study was to clinically and therapeutically characterize of adult hip fracture patients in the national reference hospitals of Guatemala. Reviewing the primary and secondary sources, describing generalities of this pathology and analyzing the literature of the Hospital Roosevelt and the Hospital General San Juan de Dios. Hip fractures in adults over the age of 60 are the result of low-energy trauma and are often associated with osteoporosis and other comorbidities that may increase their prevalence. Classic treatments consist of partial or total replacements in cases of subcapital fractures or reductions with the use of internal fixation implants of more models for trochanteric fractures. The type of surgical treatment in the national reference hospitals of Guatemala, for intracapsular fractures is hemiarthroplasty, for intertrochanteric and subtrochanteric fractures is osteosynthesis. The hospitalization time at Roosevelt Hospital and San Juan de Dios exceeds that established in Europe and the United States, so it is necessary to establish boarding protocols in these patients.
