Abstract

In the Ch’orti region of Guatemala, the presence of Creole pigs and their breeding is still a practice of obtaining protein for consumption and economic resources. In this research the objective was to generate information on the main zoomometric, morphological and phaneroptic characteristics of the Creole pig (females 44 / males 24), a simple random sampling was used for proportions with maximum variance, considering a confidence level of 95%. The characterization was carried out in young animals that met the racial standard, both sexes, non-pregnant and from previously identified communities; 12 morphometric and 10 phaneroptic variables were analyzed, 7 corporal indices. The morphometric results are homogeneous, as well as the corporal indexes, of small to medium body size, long and narrow head (dolichocephalic) of short and thin body (mediolíneos with tendency to longilineans). They do not present sexual dimorphism, with rectilinear frontonasal profile, with Asian and Iberian ears, from black to red spotted and black, little to abundant hair, pigmented and white hooves, pigmented mucous membranes. Its high pelvic index indicates that they are animals of low reproductive capacity, due to the pelvic tightening. In addition, it is concluded that the Creole pig has its origin in the Iberian trunk.
